The Academy Academy Take Off

Gerald Hearns, CEO & Founder, had a vision to become a business owner since the age of six.

With help from his mom, he began selling lemonade, then scrapping aluminum and copper that he would use to buy materials to build hand modeled cars out of solar power and battery circuits.

Beginning in Business

Throughout his middle school and high school years, he created a successful business model by selling food, snacks, and beverages.

Gerald’s cousin, Terryon Chapman approached him with a business opportunity to sell his F.H.G. (For His Glory) polka-dot socks which he offered at $7.00 a pair.

Gerald sold numerous socks before going off to college at Florida A&M University. Gerald was not offered an athletic scholarship so he had to depend on academic grants combined with the money he saved from selling snacks and socks to pay for college at Florida A&M University.

He envisioned producing his own brand of elite socks and launched his sock line called “Get Beefy,” with twenty-two different color combinations. The socks had great quality and were sold at an affordable price, benefiting inner-city youth from the Tamarind community in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he grew up.

Despite much adversity Gerald continues to hustle and grind, serving as a role model to pave the way for youth of our country.

He believes in serving and guiding others while mentoring and teaching our youth.

The dream of becoming a CEO has turned into reality as his elite sock business has grown into a sports apparel business, Brick by Brick Gear!

Habitat Housing Solutions

Gerald Hearns also serves on the board for Habitat Housing Solutions which is a nonprofit that has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to generate funds to help build homes for low-income families in Palm Beach County.

Gerald and Brick by Brick believe in giving back to the community that gave so much to him.
